1590-JB-17 Conviction

Mohammed ABDULLAH appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on 30 August 2017, charged with four offences of selling counterfeit electrical and leather goods contrary to section 92 of the Trademarks Act 1994. The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a 2 year Conditional discharge and ordered to pay £200 towards prosecution costs.

The case was brought by TM Eye as a private criminal prosecution on behalf of its clients Louis Vuitton and Apple.

Between 9 May 2017 and 1 June 2017, three test purchases of fake Louis Vuitton and Apple goods were made from the defendant at two stalls at 218 and 245 High Road, Camden, London. These purchases were video recorded and the defendant was identified from the relevant footage as selling counterfeit goods.

The defendant sold a wide variety of other fake luxury goods from brands including; Michael Kors, Gucci, Hermes and Chanel. No prosecution was brought in relation to these goods and no items were seized.

ABDULLAH will now have his fingerprints, photograph and DNA taken and the conviction will be recorded on the Police National Computer. Should he re offend he will again be prosecuted and risks a prison sentence.
