A woman from Maidenhead appeared at Reading Magistrates Court on 1st February 2019, where she pleaded guilty to four offences of selling counterfeit goods contrary to Section 92 of The Trademarks Act 1994. She was sentenced to a £120.00 Fine and ordered to pay a £35.00 Victim Surcharge.
The case was brought as a private criminal prosecution by TM Eye on behalf of its client Hugo Boss.
The convicted woman advertised Hugo Boss clothing amongst other counterfeit goods including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Calvin Klein and Porsche on the online marketplace of Facebook and her personal selling page.
Between 14 November and 6 December 2018, the TM Eye Online Investigations Team carried out three test purchases of counterfeit Hugo Boss clothing via the Face book selling page. The goods were collected by a detective from the TM Eye Dedicated Undercover Unit. Evidence was gathered both online and using covert filming resulting in the prosecution and convictions.
