On Saturday 14 July 2018, detectives from TM Eye’s Illicit Pharmaceutical Team and TM Eye India supported by Indian police raided raided a property in Electronic City, Bangalore, India.
A large amount of fake life saving medicines were found and seized, including 6,732 counterfeit tablets, 1,250 labelled empty medicine bottles and 26,970 counterfeit labels pre prepared in sheets ready to be placed onto the bottles.
An Indian National from Bangalore named as KONDAPURI was arrested during the raid. He has since been charged and remanded in custody.
KONDAPURI ran a large scale manufacturing facility producing counterfeit medicines for sale globally.
TM Eye Director David McKelvey said,”this arrest was the result of a 3-month covert undercover operation by TM Eye’s Illicit Pharmaceutical Team working with our detectives from TM Eye India. Our undercover operatives supported by TM Eye’s surveillance team carried out a series of covert buys from KONDAPURI in Bangalore, India. He was able to supply counterfeit life saving medicines on a large scale. Surveillance was carried out in difficult circumstances that led to the illicit factory.
Indian police supported by TM Eye’s Illicit Pharmaceutical Team then raided the premises seizing significant amounts of fake medicines and associated paraphernalia.
TM Eye continue to tackle this global crime working at the ‘coal face’ to take down the crime networks that operate globally.
The victims are those innocent sick people who buy these drugs believing them to be genuine and hoping that the medicines will save their lives or help their illness and suffering”.
