On 14 February 2013, TM Eye detectives working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police attended a stall operating within the Canal Market in Camden openly selling counterfeit high end watches and branded leather goods. A Surrey man running the stall was served with a criminal summons for a number of Trademark offences and will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on 28 February 2013.
This was the culmination of a three month covert operation by TM Eye. The prosecution is being mounted as a private criminal prosecution by TM Eye on behalf of Louis Vuitton and Cartier. A large number of fake watches and leather goods were recovered from brands including Rolex, Breitling, Gucci, Ferrari, D&G, and many others.
TM Eye Director David McKelvey said, “this was a successful operation mounted with Camden Police with the full support of Camden Trading Standards. The stall was operating openly causing huge damage to the brands involved. TM Eye will pursue anyone selling fake goods that impact on our clients brands and ensure that they are brought to justice through the criminal courts. We will continue to ‘catch and convict’ those involved. We have recovered watches that if genuine would be worth several hundred thousand pounds.”
